Heavy Items – Reducing Damages

Customer: Sentry Safes

Sentry Safes, one of the country’s leading manufacturers of safes, came to Polyfoam looking to solve the issue of extensive damages to their product. The existing packaging consisted of different corrugated/honeycomb designs for each of a wide array of safes that was not providing adequate protection, and Sentry needed a solution to the problem. The project was complicated by the extreme weight of the products, many of which weigh over 100 pounds, combined with in-store shelf space constraints that would not allow for larger boxes.

Polyfoam’s engineering group put their extensive experience and expertise to work, and was able to develop a package that worked within the constraints. By designing parts using EPS and other engineering resins, the team created a design that prevented damage to the safes during transit. Sentry’s damage claims have been tremendously reduced, and they continue to partner with Polyfoam to further reduce costs.
