Polyfoam Corporation recently introduced insert-molding into its broad range of capabilities. Widely used in the Insulating Concrete Form (ICF) industry, insert molding allows foam to be fused around other components.
ICFs are EPS molded stay-in-place forms for the construction industry. The ICFs provide instant, high r-value insulation and structural strength to a home. Structures built with ICFs are proven to be more energy efficient, quieter and stand up to environmental elements such as hurricanes better than stick-built structures.
With insert molding, a connector clip is molded into the part, which allows the EPS forms to be connected. This also provides an anchor for attaching items such as siding and cabinetry. The forms are put into place at the job site, and concrete is poured between them in much the same way as traditional wood forms. After the pour, however, the EPS forms are not removed – they stay in place to provide the instant insulation.
ICFs are becoming increasing popular not only as a form structure for basements, but above ground as well. It is here that the full benefits are achieved from both an insulating and structural perspective. Commercial building as well is realizing the multitude of benefits from ICFs, and they are fast becoming the number one choice of many builders.
